Orale MK in Jersey City

Welcome to the opening of Orale MK!Photo by Joe Dantone Photography visit www.joedantone.com

Jersey City, NJ is officially the new home of Orale MK (Mexican Kitchen). Owner/Partner and old friend Alex Mendelsohn had got in touch with me to capture some details of the freshly renovated interior and exterior of the new restaurant.

This place was rebuilt from ground up, no crevice was left untouched. Just walking through the front doors to the sprawling bar and vibrant graffiti murals on the walls, the decor vision was very clear.

Aside from being the brightest store front on Groves St., Jersey City, it is by far the cleanest. Walking through the double doors in front you are greeted by the host whose station is a graffitied Husky Tool Box, when being seated the host opens the drawers revealing a very large menu of Tequila’s and freshly made mixed drinks, as well as a large menu filled with traditional and exotic Mexican cuisine.

After your greeted by the host, if there is a wait take a seat at the bar or get mesmerized by the awesome bottle/light display recessed into the wall. While your sitting down to have a drink, its a great place to charge your phone and just hang out, as there are outlets at every other stool area at the bar.

Once you are seated after you’ve had a refreshing Mojito or daily fresh made fruit infused beverage, you will probably be escorted to 1 of 2 separate rooms of the restaurant. Through out the dining area there are so many details from the ceiling tiles, to the graffiti in the door frames, framed art work, and rustic lamps right down to an 80’s boom-box pumpin’ out some awesome jams in the bathrooms.

From what I saw from prep down to the serving of customers there was no tortilla unturned…see what I did there? Haha. Immediately once the bartenders arrived, fresh fruits, vegetables, and mint where being cut and fresh juice was being made. While that was happening fruit infused drinks were being prepped in massive drink dispensers.

Moving back to the kitchen area each employee hit the ground running once they walked in that door. Within no time I had seen the biggest bowl of freshly made guacamole I had ever seen in my life.

While employees were setting the tables there was another employee trailing to inspect all aspects of the table setup from silverware to glasses and dish placement. I quickly learned that the workers at Orale MK absolutely love what they do and seems like even though they have only been open 3 weeks they’ve pretty much become a family already.

Before customers started flooding the restaurant, the Owners, the Chef, as well as Bartender have a meeting with ALL of the employees. Going over new additions to the menu, quizzing each member of the team on special ingredients and unique things about different foods to try and help their clients to navigate through the menu. Also bringing to the table new dishes so the members of the team can help describe the tastes of certain foods.

By the time the meeting finished it was 5pm, and that means doors open within seconds there were 4-5 people at the bar and 6-7 tables being seated, and within about 45 minutes of opening at 5pm the place was almost filled.

Here was my chance to take pictures of some food that is offered at Orale MK. I was given 3 dishes of Ceviche. Ceviche is typically a seafood dish marinated with either spices or citrus juices amount a few other things. The 3 were El Purucho, Ceviche Mixto, and Traditional Mixto. The next 6 dishes brought out were all different styles of taco’s created. There was Al Pastor, Carnitas, Pollo, Carne, Carnicero, and Machin. I must say that I love going out of the box and trying different foods, I asked what the taco was that was being served inside of a bone, the taco contained bone marrow which acts as a very tasty butter, and was mixed with Carnitas which is marinated and spiced to perfection. The larger dish with the boned meat was a dish called Dinasaurio. Not only was I blown away with the taste of all of these foods the presentation was so clean and the colors were so vibrant.

Each dish I tried had perfect texture and a nice blend of spices. the dishes that were a little spicier were great because the spice was not over whelming it was very tasteful. So do you viewers like how I was the photographer in the beginning of the blog post and my visit to Orale MK, and by the end of my visit, and the end of this blog post I became a food critic some how? Maybe its because my mouth is still watering to eat this food again. Anyway take a look at some more of the images and then stop by Orale MK! Location below
